I am inordinately proud of these three jars. Next year, I’m going to plant the same number of cucumbers, but maybe be a little more conscientious about harvesting them when they’re tiny. Bigger isn’t always better….
Also, I’m planning on planting some dill, so that I can pluck some from the garden right when I need it. The dill I got from the Farmer’s Market was quite wilted and tired after a day in the fridge.
So far I’ve got raspberry jam, strawberry jam, pickles, and pepper jelly. Still going to make pesto, salsa, tomato sauce and tomato soup. There’s also a burgeoning crop of potatoes and carrots, which I think will overwinter nicely. This is the time of year to put in garlic, I think, so I might do that soon.
Last year, I actually managed to grow one pepper, which was a huge success, but this year, the three pepper plants didn’t produce anything, so I am going to dig them up and plant them into pots to see if they’ll be happier inside, by a window.
I grew hyssop, lavender, thyme, basil, parsley, and rosemary, and they all thrived. The lettuce and spinach did well, keeping us in greens until about two weeks ago. I could have seeded a second batch, I guess. Maybe next year.
Hey Petra. good job.
I would love if you could email me your pesto and tomato recipes. I have more tomatoes then anyone can eat in this house.
I am going to plant more next year as well when i get a bigger garden going.
