The less glamorous side of gardening. I’m not very systematic about it, so I usually have small to medium sized heaps of weeds all over the yard, and once in a while I collect them and dump them into a pile. I was happy to be doing it today, any excuse to be outside on such a glorious day.
The official plan for the day was an afternoon excursion to Oak Hammock Marsh, because it was “Rocks and Minerals” weekend (and the back of my mind still insists on teaching that topic) but after I got home from a walk with my friend V, all of the kids had made their own plans. L went off to play with her small tribe of friends, which was fair trade, because Tee managed to collect 5 boys over here to play Age of Mythology, his favorite board game of all time. Jay played with M, and for a while, two other small girls as well. At peak count, there were 10 kids here, not counting my big two.
It turned out to be one of those happy days in which there seems to be an endless stream of friendly visitors, lots of coming and going, lots of activity, and lots of fun. So I’m glad we didn’t go on our field trip.
Here’s a picture of the board game in progress,
