My very first tagging experience! I was tagged by 280 Main St for this meme, and I couldn’t be more excited. Here’s what I’m supposed to do:
- Link to my tagger
- Post the rules
- Share 7 facts about myself, some random, and some weird
- Tag 7 people at the end of my post and link their names
Okay. I can do that. It’s kind of like a chain letter, without the prize. I used to send those off, totally believing that I would get whatever it was I was supposed to get, and never once got anything. I’ve also never won anything in any kind of lottery. Hey! I’m getting the hang of this! Here are some more:
1. I’ve had a self-help book reading compulsion since my teen years. I do believe I’ve read almost every book on relationships out there, and found most of them absolutely riveting. The weird bit is how I ended up divorced anyway.
2. I used to play this game with my younger brother called Put a Blindfold Over My Eyes and Lead Me To A Ledge of an Undetermined Distance From the Ground. I find that so weird, in retrospect. Why didn’t I put the blindfold on him, and make him jump? Why didn’t I worry about breaking my legs?
3. I am absolutely phobic of mice. I grew up in a jungle, am not in the slightest way scared of any other moving or crawling thing, have never had any nasty experiences with rodents, and I think of myself as a practical, no-nonsense sort of girl. Yet even the thought of a furry, twitchy, skittery thing scuttling across my kitchen floor gives me the serious heebes. It’s on my mind because I have a mouse in my kitchen. I saw it a few nights ago. And now I’m afraid to even walk around my own house once the lights are off. I set a no-kill trap out for it, but it’s too smart to go in it. I think I may have to set one of those guillotine type of traps. But who’s going to check it in the morning? I am SO grossed out just thinking about it.
4. I left highschool at age 17 to go to university, spent 3 years getting a BSc, 4 years in medical school getting an MD, and a further 2 years in a pediatrics residency, only to quit 2 years before I was fully qualified in order to stay home with the children I swore I would never have.
5. My then-husband and I drove to the southwest coast of Mexico from here in Canada one winter, taking all four children, then ages 2, 4, 6 and 9 . It took 40 hours of driving. There. Then, of course, 40 more back. No DVD player, because of course I insisted that the kids soak in the changing scenery. It was actually a really fun trip. Honestly.
6. I live in a city with 7 months of snow, and I HATE winter.
7. I attended an international boarding school in Singapore, and I don’t remember actually seeing anything in the city of Singapore. Except the shopping district. I don’t think we left the compound much.
Well, that was fun. I had a hard time stopping. I can be a bit of a blabbermouth. I’m going to pass the torch onto the other bloggers who’ve commented on my site, but like Marjorie over at 280 Main St said, don’t feel any pressure. Only do it if it doesn’t cause stress…
Oh hell. I’ll be brave and tag some other bloggers that don’t know me from a hole in the ground. Just because I like their sites.
Hi El Burro,
Thanks for tagging me. I hope you don’t think I’m taking the easy way out (although I probably am!) but here’s a link to a similar meme I responded to a few weeks ago. I really can’t think of any “odd” facts about me (I’m really kind of boring!), but here’s a link to some hopefully interesting ones:
Daddy Dan – Six Interesting Facts
I’m such a dinosaur. Help! What’s a “meme”?
It’s a word that was coined a few years ago to describe an idea that spreads like a virus through crowds of people. In this context, though, it’s been adopted to mean you’ve been “tagged” like in a game of tag. Check out my 7 weird things post, or Angela’s, for the rules on this “meme’. You follow the rules, and then “tag” other bloggers with the meme, etc etc. So, I guess it does spread like a virus, sort of.
I didn’t know either, when I was tagged with it. I guess I’m a bit of a dinosaur too…
Hey, I answered your meme today! 🙂
Another dinosaur checking in here. I just looked up the word about two months ago when I came across it on someone else’s blog.
Thanks for doing this! That Put a Blindfold Over My Eyes game has me sitting here laughing–I can just picture it. I’m also picturing you like one of those women in the cartoons, standing up on the top of a table saying EEK when a mouse comes running in. (I would be next to you–except I’d stay up there when all of those jungle creatures came running in that don’t bother you). WOW to #4. And to #5, especially the no DVD player part.
What a “weird and random” person you are! 🙂 And someone with very lucky children to have you…
OK, call me stupid. I just saw this on your sidebar. Gee, I like you already. Have another go but no pressure. 🙂
Believe it or not, I’m actually still working on this! But…I’m having trouble “linking” to my tagger and taggees (that looks so weird to read…)
Is it as simple as writing their blog addresses out? I’m thinking it’s a little more sophisticated than that.
