I tried on this tan 3/4 length leather jacket that had a black liner, large lapels, large tan colored buttons, and a belted waist. It was fitted, and it fit me perfectly, including sleeve length. I kind of loved it, even though, or especially because? it was a refugee from the 70’s. I could imagine flouncing down the street this spring, with a style all my own, a seventies theme song jangling in my head. I would have to find tall black boots, an orange and brown silk scarf, a wide-lapeled blouse and maybe a tam. I would be expanding the boundaries of fashion, busting out of the ordinariness of black quilted outerwear. This jacket would be the spring board for a whole new look, my own personal quirky sense of style. I would be that woman. The one with a style all her own.

And so my fantasy went, spiralling out of control, until Jay looked up from her knitting and burst into peals of laughter. You look funny! she said. She came over to take a better look and wrinkling up her nose, said Eeew! You smell funny too! True enough. That’s the trouble with vintage clothing. Too much time in somebody’s basement.

Oh well.

On the brighter side, I bought 3 long-sleeved tops and 2 pairs of jeans for L for $15.00 altogether. Sweet. I’m glad that she’s still willing to wear used clothing.
