Plasticine City has spawned yet more writing. Tee has been inspired to write a story titled……Plasticine City. He just went over to the computer a few days ago, opened the Open Office program, and began writing. I judiciously ignored him, to avoid the Overenthusiastic Dampening of Initiative Effect, but when he called me over have a look at it, I noticed that he had written in paragraphs, and that the spelling was correct.
I am so glad that I’ve been able to get enough of a grip on my anxieties to allow him unfettered access to his imagination during “the school day”. I would never have believed that he would ever spontaneously write anything, given his reaction to my writing instruction in months past, so I’m absolutely over the moon with this new development.
That’s awesome! I’m hoping for a breakthrough in reading one day soon, because I hear, “can you read more of [insert current volume of the Chronicles of Narnia here] now? Pleeeease?” about fifty times a day!
Thanks Ang. I think that the let-them-do-it-when-they’re -ready approach is definitely the right way, but it sure can be hard to stand back (at least for me). I’ll bet Z is on the tipping point.
