Big week coming up.
Very first trip away from home. On an airplane. To a different city, in a different province.
For a girl who could barely be crowbarred off the side of my leg three years ago, you’d think this would be a big deal, but it’s pretty clear that she’s a different kid than she was back then. The child who wept in fear at the thought of attending a half day kindergarten when she was five is now an almost eight-year old child who isn’t bothered in the least by the idea of sleeping away from home for three nights.
Or so she says.
I’m glad that big sis L is going on the trip too.
How old was L for her first diving competition away from, in Thunderbay, I believe? Old than Jay, I think! You are right that parenting gets a bit more relaxed with every additional child in the family…remembering your long and hard thinking/debating process of letting or not letting L go on her first out off town bus trip with the diving club but without Mom…Mom was needed at home for the other three siblings…a big decision it was indeed. Now big sister can help her little sister and Mom can relax and let number four experience an out-off-town diving competition and being away from home without a parent. HOW EXCITING…
L was around the same age, I think, maybe a year older, not rightly sure any more. It is very exciting for J to be “on the team” and to get to compete out of town. L was initially pretty low key about J coming along, but she’s gotten progressively more nurturing to J about it as the time grows nearer. I think it might be a nice sisters memory for the two of them.
